System Design Tradeoffs I Use In Real Projects
When I design systems, I focus on three constraints first:
- How fast can I ship value?
- How safely can I scale traffic?
- How easy is this for future maintainers?
My Practical Approach
I start with a simple architecture that is modular enough to evolve.
- Keep domain boundaries clear.
- Optimize high-traffic paths, not everything.
- Add observability early: logging, error traces, and request metrics.
Example Tradeoff
For authentication and role checks, I often choose straightforward server-side validation first, then add cache and policy optimization after usage patterns become clear.
That keeps early delivery fast while preserving a path to stronger scale.
